Meet Julie Smith
First and foremost, I’m a wife and mom of four adult children in a neurodiverse family. From ADHD to learning differences to my own Executive Function challenges, I’ve been there. It’s why I do this work. As a parent, you are seen. I understand the worry, struggle, and overwhelm of helping your child harness their gifts so they can be their best self. As an individual, I relate to the adult who begins to see connections between her own challenges and those of her children, and who looks within to see that those challenges were not because of a flaw, but rather a difference in how my brain works. I’m a Professional Certified Coach. I have advanced training in ADHD and executive function coaching from ADD Coach Academy, and I’m a part-time reading tutor for dyslexic children at Aspire Academy.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are executive functions?
Executive functions are cognitive skills that help with planning, staying organized, managing time, focusing, and controlling emotions and impulses. If you have low executive function, you might feel easily overwhelmed, struggle to start or finish tasks, miss deadlines, or have trouble managing your emotions in stressful situations.
What is the difference between ADHD coaching and Executive Function coaching?
Executive Function Coaching provides personalized support to improve specific areas like time management, organization, planning, task initiation and completion, and self-awareness. Because a person may struggle with certain executive function skills even without ADHD, this coaching support can help anyone struggling with one or more of these skills.
ADHD Coaching is a collaborative partnership between a person with ADHD or ADHD-like traits and a professional coach who has current ADHD knowledge and best practices. The coach listens with an appreciation for how ADHD impacts the client and also explores executive function, but through the lens of the full ADHD experience. This includes helping you understand how the ADHD brain works, regulate attention, manage impulsivity, leverage ADHD strengths, build confidence, and create systems that work with your unique brain. ADHD Coaching may also involve parents, family, spouse, or partner.
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Both coaching and therapy serve valuable roles in personal development and mental well-being.
A mental health counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist may diagnose or treat ADHD. Therapy also helps individuals with emotional healing, symptoms of mood or anxiety disorders, and other mental health issues. Therapy tends to explore a person’s past to the present.
Coaching tends to explore a person’s present and desired future, and it’s action-oriented. It explores the “what” and “how,” and helps you identify strengths, set actionable goals, and develop strategies to help you move forward and achieve what’s important to you. In summary, a coach can help you navigate and manage daily ADHD challenges effectively and thrive.
How will a parent, spouse, family member, or other person impacted by a person with ADHD benefit from coaching?
Through involvement in the coaching process, these individuals may discover:
- Skills to listen and communicate more effectively with the person with ADHD, and the family as a whole
- Strategies and tools to support the person with ADHD
- A better understanding of the person with ADHD that leads to increased patience and appreciation
- Ways to set boundaries and manage expectations
- How to respond with positive reinforcement and acknowledgement that leads to change in challenging patterns and behavior
